"I was impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the trainees I spoke to." |
"I attended a careers fair at Leeds University a couple of years ago aimed at students looking for training contracts, and discovered that Beachcroft LLP was a commercial law firm as well as a big player in the defendant insurance sector. I applied to the firm for a training contract and was impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the trainees I spoke to, both at the recruitment fair and at the assessment day.
"Having qualified as a banking lawyer my work mainly involves reviewing, drafting and negotiating loan and security documentation ranging from simple lending and borrowing transactions to more complex project finance transactions.
"On a project finance matter as part of a larger projects team, I worked alongside a Banking Partner, acting for a private sector consortium contracting with the public sector to design and build a naval base with the aid of £100 million loan facility. I took responsibility for the review and negotiation of the security package required by the senior funder to ensure that it took a commercially acceptable form for our client.
"Working with a smaller team on a property development matter, I handled the banking and finance aspects of the deal, reviewing and negotiating the loan and security package, advising the client on the potential risks and problems involved and providing alternative commercially acceptable solutions.
"During my time with the firm, I have attended both internal and external training days including events aimed specifically at my area of work, as well as events designed to help develop my broader commercial skills.
"One of my proudest moments so far has to be eating five Scotch Bonnet chillies in a contest organised by clients to win a strip of vineyard in France for myself and three colleagues!"
