"I was impressed by the 'can do' attitude of the partners and the team." |
"I was in independent practice as a Barrister in Chambers in Birmingham before I joined. I knew that Beachcroft LLP was a successful commercial firm and I expected it would have quite a formal culture. I later found out that the atmosphere is far from formal. It was the variety and quality of work available, the team I'd be working with, and that classic gut instinct of feeling comfortable and fitting in that clinched my decision to join.
"Much of the work we carry out in this department is contentious. In addition to running my own files, because of my background as an advocate, I attend a large number of tribunals doing the advocacy on my own cases, as well as for cases that other members of the team are running. The sorts of claims we cover range from straightforward unfair dismissal cases to complex discrimination and TUPE cases.
"I was impressed by the attitude of the Partners and the team, and also the fact that I was asked to do the advocacy on some multi-day race discrimination cases soon after joining. Such a degree of responsibility so quickly was not what I expected but was a welcome challenge. I was also impressed by the level of exposure given to junior members - for example in giving seminars and lectures. This again is not something all firms do and is a positive way to help build confidence early on.
"I've had a great deal of IT and Library Skills training within the firm during my induction and also periodically as and when I have asked for it. I've also had internal departmental training on legal issues and team marketing and I'm broadening my way of working to encompass more client care and business development skills.
"I think there is an atmosphere of informal professionalism, which in itself has encouraged a very open, friendly and positive working environment."
