Can I apply in writing?

I need a work permit, can I apply?

Unfortunately we are unable to employ anyone who doesn't have the right to work in the UK or to sponsor work permits, unless we are unable to recruit from UK or EU sources.

Do you offer secondments?

A number of our fee earners will be on client secondments at any given time. This enables them to gain valuable exposure to the client as well as improving the breadth of their skills and experience. Being a national firm, we can also second and transfer people from one office to another in order to respond to the requirements of the business, or of an individual who wants to move for personal reasons, provided there is a business need.

I applied to Beachcroft LLP a while ago and was unsuccessful. Can I re-apply?

This will obviously depend on the role and the recruiter, but we would always be prepared to discuss this, particularly where we have agreed to keep your details on file. We also encourage candidates to make speculative applications to us even if there isn't currently a vacancy which matches their requirements.

How do you screen people against criteria?

In all cases we screen applications against objective selection criteria which will vary according to the role. If you are invited to interview, you can expect a competency-based interview which looks at your skills and experience in conjunction with competencies relevant to the role you are applying for. We also use written case studies and/or aptitude testing in some areas, but you will always be made aware in advance if we are going to ask you to complete one of these.

What qualities do you look for in applicants?

There may be specific qualities which apply to individual roles or teams and these will always be outlined in the job description. However, the common characteristics we look for in all our people are confident communication skills, a flexible, team-oriented approach and a positive and enthusiastic attitude. The key skills we look for when assessing lawyers for positions within the firm is the ability to give sound legal advice in a practical and commercial way.

What should I do if I have a disability that may affect my performance at any stage of the selection process?

Please let us know at the earliest possible opportunity of any disability which you feel may affect your performance and we will work with you to make any adjustments we can to help you perform at your best.

Can I claim travel expenses for my interview?

We can make a contribution towards travel expenses for those travelling to interview from outside the local area, provided this has been agreed at the outset.

How soon will I hear from you after an interview?

We aim to get back to you with feedback within one week of your interview. It is often the case that we are able to contact you faster than this, but where there are several candidates involved in the process, we think it's fairer to see everyone before giving feedback. If you are unsure at any stage about what is happening with your application, please do not hesitate to contact either the Recruitment Manager or the Location Manager handling your application and they will be happy to update you.

What happens if I get offered a job?

You will initially receive a call from us with a verbal offer which will give you the 'headline' details about the offer. This will then be followed up by a formal written offer and contract. Offers are usually held open for a specified period of time from the date they are made. If you accept the offer in writing, we will then be in regular contact with you while we take up references and agree start dates and you will receive further information relating to your employment and induction. In some cases you may also be invited along to a team social event if there is one planned before you join.

How would my performance be appraised?

Everyone has an appraisal on an annual basis (usually between January and March). This is based on a self-assessment which you discuss with your line manager/Partner, reviewing performance against agreed objectives over the year, as well as setting objectives and development targets for the year ahead.

What opportunities are there for career development?

We go to great lengths to recruit the right people for the firm and we therefore want to ensure we do everything we can to retain them. This means offering opportunities to grow with the firm. Of course, career paths will be different according to individual aspirations, but we provide a supportive framework for talented individuals to develop their skills and careers. This includes formal and informal training opportunities as well as secondments, internal transfers and regular reviews.

Do you provide support towards professional qualifications?

We do provide support for professional qualifications as long as they are relevant to the role and a business case for the qualification has been approved.

Will my length of service at my existing company/organisation be taken into account for pension/holiday purposes within Beachcroft LLP?

Unfortunately, no previous employment with any other firm or company will count as part of your period of continuous employment with Beachcroft LLP.

What's the social life like at the Beachcroft LLP?

This varies from team to team and location to location. Examples of the many and varied sorts of activities you can get involved in are sponsored runs/walks for charity, football, 'First Friday Drinks', karaoke/comedy evenings and softball.
